The town in the valley of river Metuje in Náchod´s highlands. Town-historical protected area. The first mention of the settlement has been from paleolit and neolit. Archeologue find there the Slavonic habitation from 12th century. The town was originated by lord Hron in the year 1254. The biggest boom was in 16th and 17th century. In the 19th century the expansion of industry starts thanks the new railway. The former Gothic castle has been Renaissance rebuilt to the chateau in years 1566-1614. Later several adapted. In the interieur of chateau the there are rare collections of art. By the castle you can visit the french garden from 18th century and park from 19th century. In the centre of town there is the church of St. vavřinec from 14th century, Renaissance rebuilt by Baltazar Vlach in 16th century. Other interesting buildings are fo example Baroque church of St. Michal from 18th century, Gothic church of St. John the Baptist from 13rd century or Neo-renaissance town-hall from the beginning of 20th century.
